SEVASTOPOL

Sevastopol is a city of great heritage and is known as the "Black Sea Bulwark". Many historical monuments can be found dedicated to the brave soldiers who fought for their country during the Crimean War. The war lasted from 1854 - 1855, until a peace agreement was signed in 1856. One of the great testaments to the war was the panoramic painting of the battle of June 6th 1855 by Franz Rubo. The painting was roughly 1500 square metres and was partially destroyed by bombings in World War Two. Fortunately, a group of young painters restored the painting in 1954. The monument on the right is in memory of P.S. Nachimov and was erected in 1959.
