RUSALKA DNISTROVA
The Rusalka Dnistrova Museum and the monument to Markiyan Shashkevytch were opened on the fifteenth Sptember 1990. Shashkevytch, (1811 - 1843), was a famous poet, writer and interpreter. He was also the inspirer of the first Ukrainian book, Rusalka Dnistrova, (Mermaid of Dnister). The exhibition is placed in the bell tower of the 18th century church, the Holy Spirit. With the support of progressive young enthusiasts, the Rusalka Dnistrova was eventually printed in 1837, (see below). |
