Backhchissarai
The former capital of the Crimean Tatars is situated
75 km from Sevastopol. On the way to Bakhchisarai you will see the Northern
part of the Crimean island with the landscapes of gardens, roses and lavender
plantations, etc. In one hour you will suddenly find yourself in the East
- the architecture of the former residence of Khan Girey is the mixture of
different styles from Russia, Italy, Ukraine and Turkey. Alexander Pushkin
was impressed by the legends and Fountain of Tears in Bakhchisarai and wrote
a beautiful poem "Bakhchisarai Legend" inspired by the romance of
the place.
Cherkassy
Cherkassy is a town on the right bank of the Dnieper. The Ukrainian Cossacks
lived here in the 16th and 17th centuries and have founded a town. Today Cherkassy
is a region center. You will have a splendid opportunity to see the town during
the walking tour.
Dnepropetrovsk
Dnepropetrovsk is an industrial city with more than
a million inhabitants. For a long time the city was closed not only for foreigners,
but also for the people of the Soviet Union because of the many plants of
the military industry. SS-20 Rackets were produces in Dnepropetrovsk. Today
only the exposition of the Racket-Museum reminds of those times.
During the city tour you will have a splendid opportunity to see and to buy the wooden Easter eggs, beautiful treasure-boxes and colorful wooden plates made by the craftsmen of famous Petrikivka village. They bring their works to Dnepropetrovsk and will be happy to tell you about their production and about the old art traditions they preserved.
Kaniv
Founded in the 11th century by Kyivan Prince Yaroslav the Wise, this pleasant
city is known today mostly as the burial site of Taras Schevchenko, the great
Ukrainian poet and artist. You will visit his museum and gravesite.
Kherson
Kherson stands high above the Dnipro delta, offering
commanding view out to the Black Sea. Present-day Black Sea Fleet can trace
its origin to the first shipyard in Kherson. The city and its surroundings
are situated in the famous Tavria Region with its wide steps, gardens, vineyards
and cornfields. From Kherson you will be taken to the beautiful delta of the
Dnieper river, stopping off en-route at a traditional fishing village.
Kremenchug
The railway bridge is lifted and the ships can dock in the provincial town
of Kremenchug. The small industrial town in Poltava region was founded 400
years ago. During the II World War it was totally destroyed. On the walking
tour you will see the friendly and hospitable town with a lot of parks.
Kyiv
Ukrainian capital is the city with more than 1 500 years
of history. A charming city with splendid architecture, ancient golden domed
cathedrals and numerous parks on both sides of the mighty Dnieper River, Kviv
is a tourist delight. During the city tour you will have a possibility to
visit the famous Andrijiv Descent where numerous artists and craftsmen offer
their works; the Golden Gate, the rest of a huge wall that was erected in
the 10th century to protect the city; and see the Parliament building that
is situated in a beautiful park.
The enormous territory of the city makes it hard at first to find one's way, but luckily there are two helping points - the Dnieper and the Metro. The river crosses the city in the North-South direction; the old town is situated on the high right bank, while the new districts occupy the left bank. The old Kyiv (the Upper Town today), known as the "mother of Russ cities", has a number of ancient monuments that shows the art of old builders and the culture of Ukrainian people. Although the city has changed its face for a modern one, the ancient monuments and the mighty Dnieper are the pearls of it.
Near the Upper Town and Podil (where the ships are
docked) is Petchersk, one of the oldest districts of the city. The name is
closely tied with the Cave Monastery (while "peschery" are caves),
the most significant Monastery of the old Kyiv Russ.
Odessa
Odessa is a very important port city in Ukraine on the
Black sea (population - 1,2 mln.). Joyful, full of humor city with its typical
dialect, local patriotism and some inaccuracy. Odessa was founded by Katherine
the Great in 18 c. as a fortress on the southern borders of the Russain Empire.
During the city tour our guests would see beautiful constructions in classical
style and the symbol of Odessa - Potemkin's stairs (192 steps are divided
by 10 landings widen from up to down and it gives optical view: upwards you
can see only steps and from top to bottom - plane landings).
You will have a great opportunity to discover Odessa,
to walk along Deribasovskaya Street, to visit different museums or the famous
Opera Theatre, one of the best in the world.
Sevastopol
The arrival to the port of the Black Sea fleet is impressive.
Situated in a magnificent natural harbor, historic Sevastopol has changed
many times. Closed for a long time for the foreign visitors, the city today
offer a possibility to see its numerous monuments - the remnants of the Greek
colony Khersones that was founded in 421 BC, the Panorama of Defense of Sevastopol
during the Crimean war (1853-56), and the monuments of the II World War -
Malakhov Barrow, Sapun Mountain and the cemetery of the German soldiers.
Yalta
The loveliest Black Sea resort lies in a natural amphitheater framed by the
verdant Crimean mountains and the sea. Its magnificent place near the sea
and its exotic vegetation make the town attractive for the travelers. Often
called "Nice of the Black Sea", even in winter meets Yalta its guests
with blossoming flowers. Yalta is a home to the historic Yalta Conference
of 1945, attended by Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill. You will visit the Livadia
Palace, the former summer residence of the Romanov family and the setting
for the conference.
Zaporizhia
Zaporizhia, the land of Cossacks: In the 16th century
they had built a fortress on the Khortitsa Island and lived there according
to their own laws. You will be told about them in the Cossack Glory Museum.
During the city tour you will find out the modern industrial city on the Dnieper
River. Founded in 1770 it has more that 800 thousand inhabitants, working
mostly in energy, iron and automobile industries. The immense dam of the Dniprogess
hydro-electric power station (built in 1932) divided the city in two halves.
