UZHGOROD

Uzhgorod is a city which has had many names in it's history, which dates back to the ninth century. The many names of the city are due to the many great battles that have occured there, indeed, during the middle ages the city was destroyed many times. It was in the late seventeenth century that the Kozaks took the city from the Hungarians, and this is how things remained until the early twentieth century. It was in 1919 that Uzhgorod fell to Czechoslovakian rule and eventually, the city settled in 1949 under the rule of the Ukrainian SSR.
